Duck Dodge on Lake Union

Tuesday evenings Lake Union is full of sailboats for the weekly Duck Dodge race. It is quite a sight from Maureen's houseboat on the west shore of the lake.

Langley Weekend

"Want to go to Langley with the kids, their friends and I? We are leaving in about a half hour!" It was about 9pm on a Friday night and I took Lynn up on her offer. It was a calm cool evening and we were one of the only boats as far as the eye could see as we motored for about 4 hours up to Langley on the East side of Whidbey Island. The kids were going to take the Boating safety training with the harbor master.

Sisters Together on Mothers Day

Natalie and Andrea

The warm sun appeared all day on Mother's Day when my sister, Andrea, was in town from Boston for the weekend. We took the Rophy out for a cruise on Lake Washington. It was nostalgic for both of us as we spent many summers on our parents yacht growing up. Now we both have boats.

I didn't get photos of Colin, his friend Terrah or Kyler. We were joined by three of my good friends. It was such a pleasant day.

Lights, Sounds, and Charts

Three nights a week for over two months this spring Lynn and I attended U.S. Maritime Academy's Coast Guard Captains training at the Lake Union Armory along with 14 guys.

Our Prof was Captain Jeff Sanders who kept us entertained as he made sure we understood all the curriculum so that we could pass the Coast Guard exam. He gave us examples, told stories and illustrated all kinds of examples as he taught us about charting, rules of the road, and safety.

Ace (Carolyn) was our second teacher and she covered for Jeff several times. She was great answering our questions especially about the upcoming test!

Lynn and I put together a study session at her yacht before we had the final and we actually studied hard!

The guys practiced on us the last night when we were learning knot tying!

We both passed the exams along with all our classmates. We have been working on our Coast Guard applications, the first aid/cpr training, drug test, physical, TWIC homeland security card, and letters of recommendation.

Flowers in my Early Spring Garden

My backyard garden is seen by few people during the year. I love to go relax on the chaise surrounded by my flowers. Though there are plants that the deer seem to consider part of their buffet dinner, the garden requires only a little work to maintain. Here are some early spring pictures of my flowers!
