The Clove Brothers at the Garlic Festival

The Garlic Festival is an annual event in Ocean Park on the Long Beach Peninsula. Two years ago, Maureen and I had our share of garlic at the festival. The Clove Brothers are the mascots of the event and we had to make sure that we got plenty of photos with them!

Celebrating 55 yrs old today... Born in 1955

This year I didn't have anything planned to celebrate the start of another year! In passing I told a few friends... and within 48 hours dozens of my friends came to a party to celebrate my birthday! My favorite place to eat dinner is at a Thai Restaurant and so we filled Jai Thai in Fremont.

Maureen hosted the party afterwords at her houseboat. Lots of chatting, eating, gifts, and singing.

I had to control my self from eating too much cake! Vonne made a scrumptious white cake with raspberry filling. John and Maureen brought a chocolate cake!

I just am so blessed with such fun and interesting friends.

Visiting Lee in North Carolina

Lee and I didn't grow up together. Our Moms were sisters and we were born the same year. We live 3000 miles apart but put us together there is just so much to talk about! Our kids are about the same age, we are both now single, we each love our jobs, homes and have a great collection of friends. She has been out to Seattle to visit several times. I took a trip out to visit her over Memorial Day weekend in North Carolina.

Lee's home is so reminiscent of our Grandma Leila's winter home in Florida. Lee has quite a talent for interior design. Her quilts adorn many of her walls. The yard which is being re-landscaped in back is full of flowers and surrounded by trees that are full of singing birds. Frogs croaked in the evening and even one of them clung to the glass door. In the morning I wanted to fling open the doors to the patio because it looked so pleasant out... but the minute I opened them, the wall of humid heat hit me in the face and closed them right away.

One day we walked across a large grassy meadow surrounding a lake. The property soon to be a park has several out buildings.

Duke University Hospital is where Lee is a Physicians Assistant working in lung transplants. Prior to that she was in oncology and I met several of her friends that attribute their good health and cancer knowledge and survival to her advice!

We drove just over 3 hours to the coast and stayed in Nags Head on the Outer Banks. Our inn, the First Colony was a perfect old 30 room bed & breakfast across the street from the dunes.
