I went alone to see this play by Lewis Black. He's a crazy loud angry comic, but this play he wrote is a basic Neil Simon type of chick flick play. It was a simple predictable story. I found it interesting because it takes place during the week of a daughters wedding... which was the same year that I first got married. I didn't have an issue with an old beau like in the play, but it brought back memories.

There is something about siblings ... that DNA that we share. I haven't seen my brother for over 15 years though he lives over on Vashon Island. I got a call from my sister, Andrea, that he was sick and needed a place to stay as his house was going on the market for sale. There is something just so familiar when I am with him. I can hear the DNA when he speaks, see it in his gestures, and feel it in his stories. He's always been quite an animated character with very strong opinions and an uncanny ability to remember details. It was such a great opportunity to connect with him as he stayed with Kyler and I for weeks over the summer. I hope to see him again soon.

Hillary has been a friend since we met the morning of 9/11 when the twin towers were attacked in NYC. We met outside and started talking. Since then, she has had a fantastic career in records management at PSE and this month earned her Bachelors Degree! The same month, her son, Kraig, graduated from high school and is soon off to college. It was fun celebrating at their house with their friends!
My brother, Glenn, came along and met Hillary's family! That was pretty cool!

Every time I hear the words "King Tut" I hear Steve Martin and his silly song about King Tut! It echoes in my head! Why? I don't know. I went to the exhibit at the Seattle Science Center with Karen and Kay. It wasn't as large as I would have hoped.. There were 5000 artifacts in the tomb with the young king... but only a handful on display. It seemed so familiar. I may have seen the exhibit in the 1970's when it came to Chicago.

I send out emails and facebook posts inviting agents to come take real estate classes on the boat but, surprisingly, I don't get a large response. But, when I have agents show, it is so much fun! If I have the class on a Tuesday in the summer, then we can enjoy the lake filling with sailboats for the Duck Dodge sailboat race.

The Edmonds Art Fairs is one of my favorites. It is usually held the weekend of Father's Day. The collection of artists is always so interesting. In Bellevue, the art fair has artists that are high end professional serious about their craft and the prices are out of this world. Other smaller art fairs have crafters that are sometimes just not that creative. Edmonds has a tendency to attract fantastic artists that also inspire me to run home and get to work. I am in awe of the work that the artis create. They also have a large inventory filling their booths. Often, at most art fairs, the prices that they charge are just too high for me... especially when I just want to go home and create myself! Inside the community center there are juried exhibits. Outside, the booths fill the fields. I met Diana up at the fair. It was a great time!

My friends have told me for years how absolutely wonderful it can be to be a grandmother. My Mom, gone now over 20 years, was a very important part of my kids lives when they were young. I also made sure they had a relationship with their Dad's mother even after the divorce.
I love the way I can feel the way Riley is "family!" There is some special connection that you just can't describe. I like being the one that comes to play and share and take photos. She can recognize me a bit! Colin and Terrah are loving parents and I admire their efforts to give the best to their daughter and juggle work, day care, friends, responsibilities and all that goes along with parenting. It's harder than any job with a paycheck! Riley is a fun, bright, energetic, social doll who gets attention wherever she goes!
This was one of the most special days I ever had with her! Terrah and Colin had to do work at the new house so Kyler and I babysat for about an hour or two. It was the first time we had done that. We got to take her for a walk to the park and play. I had more fun today with her that I could have imagined! I dream of more days like today!

Jane invited me to accompany her to Tula's to hear a great jazz singer! It was just a fantastic evening. I love that place! I met Tula at the Belltown Association meeting this year. She is a character and has created a place that has been successful with Jazz for as long as most of her customers remember!

It's the kind of call you just don't want to get! "Mom, I have been in a car accident!" she says through her crying. But, all is ok because she was not hurt. Oh I am so grateful. Times like this you just keep saying that nothing matters as long as no one was hurt!
She wasn't feeling great driving back from the park n ride after work at her internship at the King County Prosecutors office. She lightly tapped the car in front of her that stopped suddenly... but she veered to the right and went into a ditch and slammed into a tree.
But, it was all a blessing.. because there were no injuries, insurance covered more than we dreamed the car would be worth, and we used the money to buy me another car. She ended up with the Honda Civic I bought last year. I got a Mazda 3 that my friend Jane was selling within 3 days! Life is good.

I taught a class this year on my Birthday and then went on the Art Walk in Pioneer Square with friends. But, I loved the SURPRISE party that Maureen gave me at her floating home. I celebrated with three desserts... cupcakes at class, a luscious chocolate treat at the restaurant at the Artic Hotel, and the incredible cake that Maureen gets for me!
My intent is to get a bit older each year as the calendar goes.. not to get bigger!
There is just something special about our birthday each year. It is a day we just celebrate ourselves. I used to call my Mom every year and tell her that I was grateful she had me and that she put up with me all those years as a kid and especially as a teen!
